Sound Off
Saturday, November 07, 2009
Glad to have Nodine I live in the Semmes area. We have been very proud of Steve Nodine's stewardship on the County Commission. I see Sound Off sort of bashed him today. We're very proud of him. He took an interest in our area, and we're glad to have him. He's a great commissioner. Chamber a special interest group Steve Nodine represents the people of Mobile County, whereas the Chamber of Commerce represents its dues-paying members. The chamber members make up a tiny percentage of the people of Mobile County. The chamber is a special interest group, pure and simple. Commissioners fought for people I think the way the city of Mobile took in Tillman's Corner was dirty and underhanded. I'd like to thank Mr. Nodine and Mr. Dean for trying to stop them from doing that to other people. Wanted: A moderate takeover A caller said that if we don't like that Alabama doesn't have gambling, then we should move to another state that has it. No, we shouldn't. The moderates of this state need to win it back from these Christian conservatives who have run it into the ground. We need to get modern and get the people who have some sense to step up and take over. No wonder Riley opposes e-bingo Now we know why Gov. Riley was so against electronic bingo in Alabama. It's time to get him out of office. No wonder we haven't had gambling in Alabama. Other states aren't stupid Gambling is fun. No one is twisting anyone's arm to gamble. But look at it this way: All the money we spend in the surrounding states benefits those surrounding states, not Alabama. They're not so stupid. Let people vote on gambling The gambling wars continue in Alabama. There's more "he said, she said." Until campaign funding is regulated, this will continue. What Gov. Riley should do is let the people decide if they want gambling. Charge woman for leaving kids About the lady who left her two children in the car to go inside the store: When will charges be filed against her for abandoning her children? PACT is a contract Funding PACT is not a bailout. It's about the state honoring a contract. Before 1996, PACT was advertised as guaranteed. The state has a responsibility to pay the people back if they made this contract before 1996. Take me out, coach I used to come home and listen to the Atlanta Braves on the radio, even before they had cable television, even when they couldn't win. When TV messed up the game of baseball, I decided to let it go by the boards. I don't care who wins, anymore. MORE OPINION
