Things must be cheaper
in Goodman's world
Without addressing the inane theme of Ellen Goodman's column of Oct. 23, "Donate that $250 check," I would like to know where she lives.
In her words, "We are not getting a cost-of-living increase for one simple reason. The cost of living has decreased."
Not in my world. All my utilities are up 6 percent and more. My property tax (under protest as this was written) is scheduled to increase 37 percent.
Supplemental health care insurance is promised to go up precipitously, but I don't know how much yet.
Food costs are more this year than last. I cannot think of a single expense I bear that is not considerably more than a year ago. Can anyone, besides Ms. Goodman?
I don't care about President Obama's $250; and, yes, I am a senior.
In answer to a question posed in her column, it is not my only social responsibility to remain financially independent of my children. But it is a primary and worthy one.
How does Ellen Goodman rate a column in the Press-Register? I can respect views inimical to my own. Her column, however, is drivel.
