Sound Off

Thursday, November 05, 2009

This is Baldwin Sound Off, where you may speak your mind on anything you wish. Because of the large number of calls we receive, we cannot publish all the comments.

Way to go, Lacy Childress This is a great honor for the town of Silverhill and surrounding areas, for Lacy Childress, who won the barrel racing world championships in Augusta, Ga., this past weekend. We're so proud of you — and good advertisement for Baldwin County.

Editor's note: Robertsdale High graduate Lacy Childress and her 8-year-old gelding LS Wonder Boy posted a time of 14.295 seconds to win the National Barrel Horse Association World Championships open finals Saturday at James Brown Arena in Augusta, Ga., according to news reports.

DA limited to evidence To the caller of "Time for Newcomb to go," you are obviously ignorant of the reality of how our justice system works. During trials, the DA can only present evidence provided by investigators. Sometimes, the best efforts of law enforcement are unable to find a direct link to a particular person. The overwhelming circumstantial evidence was enough for a grand jury of citizens to say that Buzbee needed to be tried for murder. We should all be proud of DA Newcomb and the staff for doing the best job possible with the available evidence in a very difficult case. Your efforts to keep Baldwin County a safe place are commendable.

Why bother with petition? It doesn't affect me directly because it's District 14, but what is the purpose of having a law where you're required to get a sample of who would support something and who wouldn't, when you pass another law that gives the government the authority to bypass it? Then why have the law in the first place? Typical. Seems like in Alabama that, when you have something you don't like, you pass another law so that you could circumvent it. Unbelievable.
