Sound Off
Tuesday, November 03, 2009
This is Baldwin Sound Off, where you may speak your mind on anything you wish. Because of the large number of calls we receive, we cannot publish all the comments. Thumbs down, Summerdale I see the town of Summerdale is modeling the federal government by granting reduced taxes and fees to big companies such as Tractor Supply Co. This creates unfair competition and "helps" smaller local businesses to be unable to compete. Time for Newcomb to go? It's time for our DA Judy Newcomb to resign. She's messing up everything in the criminal justice system. Obviously, Buzbee has been found not guilty after three tries and that's enough. She needs to go. Parents do pay fees To the caller "More school fees needed": There are school fees. Parents have to pay registration fees, fees for kids to play football, and extra activity fees. So there are fees parents have to pay for their children. Vaccines made by industry The problem with the flu vaccine has not ever been with the government distribution system. One year, under Bush, private companies significantly under-guessed the need, because it cuts way into profitability when they overproduce. The next year we had problems because scientists had errors predicting specific virus components. This year, private manufacturers had production problems in producing sufficient quantities. They're now getting distributed. In each case, it was private, for-profit industry that had difficulties. Government distribution has never been at fault. Not wanted: tailgaters To the gray SUV who just followed me so closely just now in Fairhope: Let me tell you something, I could've really messed up your day if I had slammed on the brakes and let you hit me. Next time, back off.
