MOBILE, Ala. -- The JaMarcus Russell Foundation, with assistance from the Mobile Police Department Explorers, gave away turkeys on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2009, during the foundation's second annual Thanksgiving Turkey Give-A-Way. The event was held at Taylor Recreational Park facility at 1050 Baltimore St. in Mobile. JaMarcus Russell is a Mobile native and former football star at Williamson High School. Following a college football career at LSU, Russell went on to play for the NFL's Oakland Raiders, where he is quarterback.

"President Taft has promised to come to Mobile to take a steamer on a trip he has in mind to note the progress made in digging the Panama Canal. While at Columbus, Miss., the president informed Colonel E.L. Russell , vice president of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad, that the people of the Gulf City might expect to see the chief executive before a great while had elapsed."
"The Settlement Home, which is located on the corner of Conception and Canal streets, will open up its regular winter work on Saturday morning when the girls' sewing school will hold its first session."
"Mrs. Dan O'Flinn entertained a number of friends at a phantom party Saturday evening in honor of her mother, Mrs. Hoffman of Mobile. A fairy met the guests at the door and invited them into the hallway, where the mother witch, represented by Mrs. J.C. Johnson , bent over a boiling cauldron, handed punch to the guests. The whole interior of the house was appropriately decorated in black cats, pumpkin heads, witches riding brooms, autumn leaves, and ears of corn."
