Sound Off

Sunday, November 01, 2009

These comments were chosen from our regular Sound Off line because of their interest to readers in the Mobile Press coverage area: downtown Mobile, the Loop, Midtown, west Mobile and Semmes.

Need help in Midtown Any cops patrol this area in Midtown? We have all sorts of people that walk, push strollers, jog, etc., through here and fly down my street. I have a traffic circle in front of my house that is a joke in the mornings and afternoons. It is posted that the speed is 10 mph, but I've seen people approach it at 50.

People risk their lives I've lived on Firetower Road for five years and can't believe how people speed down this curvy road. One night, we came upon a terrible accident and then I found out the man was killed. People fly around curves and nearly run you off the road. I wish they'd put speed bumps to slow these people down.

Poor planning I don't know who designed the Hillcrest intersection with all these concrete dividers, but you're an

idiot, an idiot!

Sidewalks needed They need to put in sidewalks from Lakeside Drive to Schillinger Road. That would help people who can't drive to get back and forth from the Lakeside Drive area to the Schillinger Road area.

Put the dogs up front I'm in west Mobile on Schillinger and just saw two trucks with dogs standing in the back of them. I thought that was against the law. Anyway, people should know dogs might jump off for any particular reason. They should never be in the back of a truck.

USA needs to green up I hate to say this, since I love the University of South Alabama, but South needs to listen and make some changes. I work at South, and in my area, there is minimal-to-no recycling encouraged by students, staff and faculty, and I often wondered why. As for temperature control in buildings that I'm familiar with, there is no temperature control.

Hope USA puts in parking Have you seen the new University of South Alabama recreation center that's going up? It's really looking awesome. They're doing a great job on it. There is only going to be one problem — there is nowhere to park near it. It's going to be just like downtown Mobile with nowhere to park.

Thumbs up I use American Lube Fast. They're on Hillcrest Road right at Cottage Hill Road. These guys couldn't be nicer. I just wanted to say thank you for all you do. I really appreciate your service.
