Five enter Catholic High School hall of fame

The Catholic High School Alumni Association of Mobile inducted five honorees into its hall of fame Oct. 23 during McGill-Toolen High School's homecoming celebration.

The honorees included Lynn Do naghey Clapper , graduate of Bishop Toolen class of 1972; and McGill Institute graduates Donald P. Kelly Jr. , class of 1958; John L. McCarron Jr. , class of 1946; Daniel E. Reimer Sr. , class of 1968; and C.L. "Skipper" Walters Jr., class of 1970.

The inductees were recognized for their achievements and activities as high school students, as well as for their professional, civic and spiritual accomplishments. They were also recognized at the school's pep rally and during the football game's half-time activities at Lipscomb Stadium. For more information, call the alumni office at 251-445-2913.

The Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1012 Adams St., will celebrate its 121st church anniversary this morning during the 10:45 worship service. The theme will be "It's a Family Reunion."

The guest minister is the Rev. Louis Smith Jr. of New Bethel Baptist Church in Shreveport, La. Montgomery Portis Jr. serves as pastor of Mt. Zion. Program chairpersons are Rhuey and Sally Jackson. For more information, call Michelle Wil son at 251-432-2997.

Our Savior Lutheran Church, 5101 Government Blvd., hired Judy Brevik as head of its parish nursing program. Brevik received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Minot State University in North Dakota, a master's degree from the University of South Alabama, and completed the parish nursing course at Spring Hill College.

Parish nurses work with other health care professionals and the church's pastoral staff in addressing holistic health. The program includes health screenings, education, community resources, counseling and nursing skills accessible to the congregation and the community.

Brevik will be a member of the pastoral team who provides for emotional, spiritual and health related guidance to individuals and families facing crisis or problems; visits with individuals at the church and in their homes; provides advice and emotional encouragement; assists individuals and families in accessing resources in the church and community; teaches and trains both one-on-one and through classes; assists the pastor and congregational members in identifying church and community health needs; plans and implements health screening clinics and provides health education with the help of volunteers and community resources.

The fourth annual Cardboard City, a fundraiser to benefit the homeless, is Friday at the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science lot at the corner of Ann and Dauphin streets. Proceeds will benefit Family Promise of Coastal Alabama and Sybil Smith Family Village.
