Police say backyard game of dominoes turns into robbery
Staff Report
A backyard game of dominoes turned into a robbery Saturday afternoon in north Mobile when a 19-year-old known as "Wootie" and an unknown companion held up their competition at gunpoint, police said.
"Wootie," later identified as Ricardo Pettway, 19, approached two men playing cards at 5:40 p.m. behind a Dubose Street residence, asking if he and his friend could play dominoes, police said in a news release.
Pettway vouched for his friend, police said, and they sat down to play.
The friend then turned to Pettway and said, "I'm fixing to do it," police said, prompting Pettway to take a walk as his friend pulled a black semiautomatic pistol.
The friend demanded money and fled.
Police arrested Pettway later that day at his house one block away, according to the news release. He was charged with first-degree robbery.
Investigators said Monday that they are still searching for Pettway's friend, described as a black male in his 20s with a slim build standing about 6 feet 2 inches. He was wearing a multicolored jacket and blue jeans. He has star tattoo with a red dot under his right eye.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call Mobile police at 251-208-7211.
