Organization says 70 cats found inside trailer need homes
After finding more than 70 cats starving at a west Mobile trailer home, the Azalea City Cat Coalition is looking for people willing to adopt.
The cats were found by a neighbor Monday in a trailer on Green Park Drive, according to a news release issued by the coalition.
Many of the cats were starving, and there were signs that the animals had turned to cannibalism as a means of survival, the release says.
Neither the city nor the county's animal control departments are currently involved in investigating the owner of the trailer, whose whereabouts were unknown Friday night.
The Cat Coalition said the situation merits criminal charges if the owner is found.
Some of the more ill cats were euthanized, but there are still 70 or more in need of a home. The surviving cats will be spayed or neutered.
The animals, which have been socialized and are used to being around humans, were being held temporarily at several different locations around the city.
Those interested in adopting a cat can call 251-648-7582 or 251-666-4831. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 1612, Mobile, AL 36604.
