Drug-free life gets big push in school visits
Zany hats, slippers help get message across to students
Schools in the Madison district observed Red Ribbon Week on Oct. 26-30 with its anthem for "no use of illegal drugs, no illegal use of legal drugs."
From Bob Jones High School, Peer Helpers visited elementary schools to perform skits, songs and relay facts to younger students about living drug-free.
Bob Jones students followed the "Boot Drugs" theme by wearing all types of boots.
For "Sock it to Drugs" day, silly socks were the standard.
The Patriots dressed in sport team jerseys or T-shirts to "Team Up Against Drugs" and ended the week wearing red.
"We 'put a cap on drugs'," Peer Helpers sponsor Bridget Drummond said. Students paid $1 for cancer research and wore a cap of their choice.
"Students also put red ribbons on all the cars in the parking lot."
At Discovery Middle School, wearing red was the choice to kick off Red Ribbon Week.
They wore zany hats for "Drugs Mess with Your Cranium - They Will Make You Crazy Day."
