Hoover's decision to eliminate bus service doesn't mean Vestavia Hills will follow suit, said Vestavia's mayor. "We're moving forward with bus service whether Hoover abandons theirs or not," said Mayor Alberto "Butch" Zaragoza. "We plan on keeping our route. It may go to the bridge at I-65 and turn around. Vestavia Hills has eliminated its leaf-vacuuming service, but the city doesn't plan to leave seniors holding the bag. "Rake a Difference Day" will be sponsored by the city Nov. 21. Vestavia Hills City Councilwoman Mary Lee Rice criticized Hoover's decision to end transit service at the end of the month. The Hoover City Council voted Oct. 19 to end bus service after officials learned Hoover owed more for bus service in the 2009 fiscal year than anticipated.
