Pastor's Cookoff and Silent Auction

The University of South Alabama Wesley Foundation will hold its Fifth annual Pastor's Cookoff and Silent Auction from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at 5835 Old Shell Road in Mobile, across from the Mitchell Center.

During the evening, pastors from across the district will challenge each other, and the district superintendent, to see who can prepare the best dish.

There will also be a silent auction.

Parking is available at the USA Mitchell Center. All money raised benefits the ministry of the Wesley Foundation.

Light the Night Walk

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's annual Light the Night Walk fundraising event is set for 6 p.m. Nov. 12 in Bienville Square.

This year multiple myeloma survivor and Mobile Mayor Sam Jones is the honorary walk chairman. For additional details or questions, call Lindsay Gutherie at 251-472-8123 or e-mail lindsay.guthrie@lls.org.

Golf tournament

The Steve Thompson Memorial Golf Tournament presented by St. Mary Knights of Columbus will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 8 at Spring Hill Golf Course. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch at 12:30 p.m.

The cost is $100 per player with teams of four. Players may enter as a single or put together their own team. A pre-party for both golfers and non-golfers is set for 6 p.m. Nov. 7 at Callaghan's Irish Social Club.

Books are Fun sale

The Providence Hospital Auxiliary will sponsor a book sale presented by Books Are Fun from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 27-28 in the lobby of Providence Hospital.

Books and gifts will be available at great savings and all proceeds go toward projects for the hospital. Checks, credit cards and employee charge accepted.

John Kevin Wheat

In December 2007, 3-year-old John Kevin Wheat was in a drowning accident. Although the Semmes Wilmer Fire Department paramedics revived the boy, he was left with severe brain damage....
