Kentucky's Michelle Rodgers followed her funny bone to victory -- and more than $50,000 -- tonight at the America's Junior Miss national finals competition at the Mobile Civic Center. This year's AJM diary winner

After 10 days of diary entries by this year's America's Junior Miss contestants and 10 daily winners, one overall winner was announced at tonight's preliminaries. A $1,000 scholarship, provided by the Press-Register, was awarded to Laura Moore, Florida's Junior Miss, for her entry "The (painful) red boots," which was published in the June 19 newspaper. Utah's Ashley Bracey was among several contestants taking home small scholarships Thursday night as the 50 America's Junior Miss contestants danced, sang and did push-ups on the first of two preliminary contests. Contestants from Florida, Arkansas, Indiana, Wisconsin and Idaho also won scholarships worth a total of $5,000 Thursday night.
