Staff reports Spanish Fort's boys and St. Paul's girls took top honors in 5A competition, while Baker swept the 6A boys and girls Section 1 Site A in cross-country sectionals at Langan Park on Thursday afternoon. Spanish Fort scored 22 points to win 5A boys, while St. Paul's, led by Stuart Graham's winning time of 16 minutes, 10.71 seconds, was second with 36 and Charles Henderson third with 103. Graham's time set a course record. In 5A girls, St. Paul's, led by Margaret Harkness' 20:04.94, took the first seven places to score 15 points. Spanish Fort was second with 62 points and Faith Academy third with 76. Ryan Archie ran a personal best of 17:45.59 to win the 6A boys sectional race and lead Baker to its second straight boys 6A section title. The Hornets scored 29 points, while Mary G. Montgomery was second with 51 and Murphy third with 64. Baker's girls won with 34 points. Murphy, led by 6A winner Alivia Bryars (21:21.71), had 51. Davidson was third with 65. The top three teams in each division, as well as the top six runners in each division not on one of the qualifying teams, qualify for the state cross-country championships next Saturday at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Moulton. -- JACKETS SWEEP: McGill-Toolen swept the boys and girls in 6A Section 1 Site B at Fairhope High School on Thursday. McGill-Toolen's boys took six of the top 10 places to defeat Fairhope 26-46. Individually, McGill Toolen's Philip Dempsey was the winner, defeating Fairhope's Shawn Hinton 17:08.38 to 17:29.51. Daphne was third with 65 points. The Jackets also placed six runners in the top 10 on the girls side to defeat Daphne 19-74. McGill-Toolen's Carmen Carlos (18:34.01) was the individual winner in 18:34.01. Fairhope was third with 77 points. Girls basketball -- LEFLORE 63, B.C. RAIN 15: Ashley Myles notched 24 points and Jacques Brooks had 16 as the LeFlore's girls basketball team won its season opener over B.C. Rain. April Singleton had six points for the home Red Raiders. The Rattlers (1-0) host Citronelle on Nov. 17. -- BAKER 53, MOBILE CHRISTIAN 42: Precilla Hill had 15 points and 8 steals, Natasha Lilly had 14 points and 15 rebounds and Rachel Vincent added 10 points and 10 boards to lead Baker past Mobile Christian in the Hornet Tip-Off Classic.
