Broadway stars open Pop Series
Mauer, Murney, Woodruff join Community Chorus, symphony
Three Broadway stars will join the Huntsville Community Chorus to perform songs from the hit musicals "Wicked," "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Dreamgirls," "The Lion King" and more.
The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Joseph Lee, will present Broadway Rocks! on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Von Braun Center Concert Hall. Tickets range from $28 to $68.
The concert will open the 2009-10 SAIC Huntsville Symphony Pop Series.
Saturday's guest artists include Gary Mauer, Julia Murney and Virginia Woodruff.
Mauer, a Broadway veteran, has played Enjolras in "Les Miserables" and Raoul in "The Phantom of the Opera." Mauer has also appeared on "Live with Regis and Kathy Lee," "The View" and "The Today Show."
Murney has played Elphaba in "Wicked" on both Broadway and the national tour. She has also appeared on "30 Rock," "Sex and the City," "Ed" and "Law & Order."
Woodruff is currently performing in the national touring production of "The Color Purple." In 2001, she performed for the Michael Jackson 30th anniversary concert.
