Looking for a party? Take your pick
Downtown Huntsville is going to be bootiful Saturday night, with all kinds of spooky creatures, costumes and parties. Some events will start Friday night.
Here's a look:
The traditional Halloween party for the 21-and-over crowd, hosted by Huntsville Young Professionals, Huntsville Alive, Olde Towne Brewing and Valley Planet, is Saturday from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on the Clinton Avenue parking garage. It will feature live music by Juice and Coldstar.
Costumes are strongly encouraged, and guests will have the chance to win prizes for best group, funniest, sexiest, scariest, most original and best overall. To be considered in the costume judging, register before 9:45 p.m. that night. Admission is $5 at the door, with $4 beer and wine, and food by Soul Burger. Call 227-0423 or visit huntsvillehalloweenparty.com.
The annual Halloween Bar Crawl also will be downtown, starting at 5 p.m. at Humphrey's Bar & Grill and Mason's Pub with free food and drink specials. It moves to the HYP party for a $500 costume contest at 8:30, then back to Sammy T's, where there will be a $1,000 costume contest at midnight. DJ Keibot will be spinning the tunes.
Vampires invade library
Just down the street, the normally quiet Huntsville-Madison County Public Library, 915 Monroe St., will come to life Friday night - sort of - when it hosts the Vampire Masquerade Ball from 8 p.m.-midnight.
The library will celebrate the best in vampire literature with a zombie attack, dancing and costume contest. It's $5 in advance, $10 at the door and includes food and drinks. Call 532-5950 or visit hpl.lib.al.us.
Monkey will be howling
On Friday at 7 p.m., the Flying Monkey Arts Center at Lowe Mill, 2211 Seminole Drive, is hosting "Howl at the Moondust," an old-time, sci-fi thriller radio show spoof with a 20-piece big band. The vocalists are Criss Ashwell and Dave McConnell, and the production will include actors and humorous sound effects. It's $8. Call 489-7000 or visit moondustbigband.com.
