Identity of Albertville inmate found hanged released

ALBERTVILLE - Police on Monday announced the identity of the City Jail inmate found hanged in his cell Friday night as Allan Jerald Silas, 37, of Albertville.
Albertville Police spokesman Sgt. Jamie Smith said Silas had "apparently ... torn the bed sheets from his bunk" to hang himself.
Smith said Silas had been in jail since Aug. 13 on charges of writing a bad check and failing to appear in court. He also said Silas was a convicted sex offender and that he had a hold placed on him by the state probation office.
