Hotel set at Orange Beach Mandalay site
Balmaquien Hospitality , an affiliate of Innisfree Hotels, paid $10 million to BankTrust for 2.61 acres off Ala. 161 in Orange Beach and plans to start construction on a 160-room hotel in November and open by spring 2011, according to court records and Julian MacQueen , chief executive officer of Innis-
free. The site has 240 front feet on the Gulf of Mexico, and was part of the defunct Mandalay Beach condominium project. BankTrust had loaned Mandalay developers $14 million to buy the land in 2004, and bought it back at foreclosure auction for $7.5 million in 2008. Lisa Hannah of Clear Title in Gulf Shores handled the closing transaction.
The owners of B&L's Happy Shak on Gulf Shores Parkway in Gulf Shores have leased the 10,000-square-foot former Sea scape Furniture building on Ala. 59 for a second retail store and T-shirt production, according to Tim Herrington of Her rington Realty .
Langan Development paid $360,000 for a 4,200-square-foot, two-story building at 659 Dauphin St., according to Will Du mas of Dumas Realty . The building was formerly used by the Painters & Allied Trades Union local .
Kelly and Nancy Dowell purchased an 1,800-square-foot office building on Pollard Road in Daphne for $228,000, and plan to open Dowell Financial Group , according to Nathan Cox of Bellator Real Estate & Development and Jeff Barnes of Cunningham, Foley & Barnes .
Dr. Chris Corsentino & Asso ciates Chiropractors has leased a 4,400-square-foot building at 3501 Montlimar Drive, according to an office spokesman.
Sunbelt Rentals plans to add 6,000 square feet of space next to its existing location at 5905 Rangeline Road in Theodore, according to Johnny Watson of Watson Realty .
