Rhonda Glenn spent most of her life feeling trapped. Because of a lack of encouragement,-"Why would you try to learn when your momma called you dumb?" - she learned how to cover up the fact that she was illiterate. "You learn to watch people and pay attention," she said. "You learn to sit in the back of the class and be quiet." She took it upon herself to change her life and is learning to read through M-POWER Ministries (www.mpowerministries.org). This year, she's able to do things other people take for granted. She voted for the first time. She got her first library card. She is able to read her Bible. Reading has given her the courage to pursue her goal of becoming an interior designer. "I want to work in that field, learning the different colors and fabrics and all the strange names. That's my dream," she said. "I believe in myself now. Now I know that even at 47 I can become anything I want."
